Panorama

Panorama Cover Yona Brodeur Upmarket FictionWhat is Panorama?

Panorama is a voice-driven upmarket fiction that explores timeless themes like survival, ill-fated love, familial expectations, redemption, and self-discovery. It also investigates relevant issues like social inequality, the challenges of living amongst rapidly evolving technology, and cultural colonialism in a globalized world.

It is at one moment an escape thriller, the next a metropolitan power battle; an exploratory gay romance, then an isolated nature adventure. This novel pulls inspiration from the chakras to inform the settings, characters, imagery and themes of the different chapters. When the protagonist, Arjuna, ventures through the vivid locals of his world, he is simultaneously progressing along an outward manifestation of his own evolution.

Following the journey of Arjuna in Panorama will take one on journey through the human experience in its many manifestations and will familiarize the reader with their own internal landscape.

The Storyline

To flee the abuses of their father, Arjuna and his brother runaway to a land of chaos, hardship, and danger. But fate keeps Arjuna from staying anywhere too long. As his young life unfolds, he will see the privilege and burden of high society, the pleasures of partying and the pains of disease and heartbreak. In this circuitous coming-of-maturity story, every step is an adventure into curious environs with bold personalities.

When Arjuna finds himself disillusioned and in despair, what lessons can be learned through ancestral roots and a return to the land?

Why Did I Write Panorama?

Before moving from Chicago to San Francisco, I spent several years traveling and living throughout the world. Through yoga philosophy, I developed a framework to understand the variety of people and places I was encountering, which turned out to be the same framework with which I could understand the depths of myself. To process the breadth of my experiences, I needed to write a travelogue, a commentary on this not-so-post-colonial world, a coming-of-maturity story, and an accessible intro to yoga philosophy. And so, I wrote Panorama.

When Can You Read It?

I am currently in the process of securing a publishing contract and hope to have Panorama released by 2021.
